Tulum is a place where a car makes the trip: the ruins, the beach road, Gran Cenote, Cobá and Sian Ka'an are spread out and most have no regular public transport. Our Tulum office is on Avenida Tulum in the town center, between Calle Géminis Norte and Calle Libra Norte. Every rental includes third-party liability insurance, unlimited mileage and 24/7 roadside assistance, and the total with taxes is shown before you pay.
Where to pick up your car
- Tulum office. Avenida Tulum, town center. Open every day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
- Your hotel. Delivery to hotels in Tulum town, Aldea Zamá or the hotel zone is subject to availability; tell us where you stay when you book.
- Cancun Airport (CUN). A free shuttle takes you from the terminal to our Cancun office. The drive to Tulum is about 118 km, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours on Highway 307.
- Tulum International Airport (TQO). It is about 25 km south of town. Contact us before your flight and we will coordinate your pickup.

Most visitors land in Cancun. With a one-way rental you pick up at the airport and return the car at our Tulum office, skipping the drive back. Cenotes and day trips you can only do by car
- Cenotes (5 to 45 minutes): Gran Cenote, Cenote Calavera, Dos Ojos and Casa Cenote have no public transport.
- Cobá (45 minutes): Mayan ruins in the jungle, best explored by bike.
- Sian Ka'an: the Boca Paila road past the hotel zone is unpaved and rough after rain; an SUV is the better choice.
- Akumal and Xel-Há (20 to 30 minutes): snorkeling with sea turtles.
- Bacalar (about 2.5 hours): the seven-color lagoon, an easy overnight trip.
Which car to choose
Highway 307, the road to Cobá and the beach road are paved, so a compact or midsize car is enough and cheaper on fuel. Choose an SUV for four or more people with luggage, or for the unpaved road into Sian Ka'an. See also our SUV rental in Tulum.
Driving and parking in Tulum
- Town center: flat and easy. Street parking is free on most blocks; look for the white "E" signs and avoid yellow curbs.
- Beach road: paved but narrow and busy between noon and sunset. Arrive early or after 4:00 PM.
- Ruins: paid parking at the entrance on Highway 307; arrive before 9:00 AM to beat the tour buses.
- Cash: parking lots, cenotes and some beach clubs are cash only. Carry Mexican pesos.
